Day 2: “Melukat” & Bali Swing

Good Morning, Bali! Today is a busy day for the women of the Travel Tribe and our incredible activities will open your eyes to the many different faces of Bali.

After breakfast, we’re off to one of Bali’s best-kept secrets, Mengening Temple, a natural wonderland of great significance to the island. Water healing or “melukat” has been used in countless sacred ways since ancient times for religious and spiritual blessings, cultural purification rituals, and as a therapeutic tool for personal healing. Pilgrims from around the island and all of Indonesia visit Mengening to collect its holy water and cleanse themselves in the sacred pools.

Then we’re off on a great adventure that promises spectacular views to the thrill seekers in the group. High above the lush landscape in the rice fields of Tegalalang is the Bali Swing! Get your cameras at the ready!

Following a delicious lunch, we return to our home base for a little while before we head out once more for a scrumptious dinner at a great little Balinese restaurant.

Accommodation: Omham Retreat and Resort
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3:  A Morning Of Pampering + Free Time To Explore

There is simply no getting around it….there is something truly magical about Bali. And the beating heart of this island is Ubud. This picturesque town is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate.

One of the best ways to enhance your appreciation of Balinese tranquility is by indulging in a spa day. And we’ve chosen one of the most wonderful spas in Ubud, offering a variety of treatments to pamper your mind, body and soul. From soothing massages to luxurious facials, you can find everything you need to unwind and feel refreshed. Today, you’ll be indulged in three sumptuous spa treatments, guaranteed to ease any of the leftover tension or stiffness lingering from your oversea’s flights.

Luckily for us, at the conclusion of these pampering treatments, we won’t have to go far for lunch. Our spa has a beautiful restaurant set in their lovely garden where we’ll be served a healthy, three-course raw food lunch experience in the beautiful gardens at the spa

Following lunch, feel free to spend time exploring Ubud or you can return to the resort before we reconvene as a group and gather for dinner at another one of Ubud’s best eateries or, if you prefer, at Omham..

Accommodation: Omham Retreat and Resort
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4:  Sound Healing At The Pyramids Of Chi + “Canang Sari”

After breakfast, we’ll take a short drive for a special session of sound healing. Sound healing is an incredibly magical and restorative experience, especially where we are headed - to the mystical Pyramids of Chi.

Here we’ll be surrounded by the soulful sounds of trance-like music, thought by the Balinese to heal the mind, body and spirit. The vibrations of the music can also help to create a sense of peace and calm. Afterwards, we will enjoy lunch in the beautiful cafe located in a serene garden.

Then it’s back to our home base where we will learn about the Balinese practice of “canang sari”, or the making of traditional offerings, which you can easily spot in every corner of Bali. These offerings can be as simple as a few grains of rice stuck to a slice of banana leaf or as ornate as an extraordinary floral arrangement. They may be small or large and are most often placed around the home. Balinese offerings are a conscious expression of gratitude, intended to please and honor the Island of the Gods.

In the evening, we’ll enjoy an awesome dining experience at one of the most famous restaurants in the city.

Day 5: Volkswagen Car Tour

How does a classic Volkswagen convertible sound? On this journey, we will get to see the rural life of Balinese villages, stunning rice terraces. We’ll have the opportunity to meet kind people along the way, visit beautiful temples and much more.

It will be a full day tour of exploring Bali in style, stopping for lunch and then continuing to take in the  beauty of Bali with the wind blowing through our hair as we make our way through the countryside.

In the evening we will head back to our home base to relax and enjoy a homemade dinner on the rooftop of Omham.

Accommodation: Omham Retreat and Resort

Day 6:  Mala Bead Ceremony + Free Time

After breakfast, we will participate in a ceremony to make our own personal malas. But what is a “mala”? Is it simply a string of beads? A contemporary fashion statement? Yes, yes and no. So much more than simply “beads” or a piece of jewelry, a mala is a set of beads originally intended for use as a tool to support a deep state of meditation and spiritual practices. It's believed working with mala beads can help heal the body, quiet the mind and increase mental clarity. Fashion meets function at its spiritual best! Get the creative juices flowing as you create your own mala.

When we’re finished, we will gather for lunch and then the afternoon is yours to enjoy on your own. You might choose to head into town for a little shopping, arrange for a massage, take a walk, lounge by the pool….whatever strikes your fancy.

We’ll enjoy another splendid dinner in Ubud this evening.

After lunch, we will head back to the hotel for a little rest before after which we we’ll be able to join a complimentary yoga class and/or gather around to share a special cup of tea. headaches.

Day 8:  Batik Painting & Tea Tasting

Once again, we begin the day by heading to the home of a local artist for a workshop on the age-old techniques of  “batik”. Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to cloth. This tradition is found in various countries. The batik process used in Indonesia, however, is the best-known.

After we’ve ooh-ed and aaah-ed at our personal creations from our batik-making session, we’re off to Ubud for lunch followed by a special tea tasting ceremony where we’ll sample a number of the many varieties of tea grown in the Indonesian archipelago.

Then it’s back to our home base for a lazy evening including another delicious dinner and free time.

Today's outing includes a leisurely stroll through the beautiful scenic rice fields around Ubud that you’ll quickly recognize as the picture perfect landscape that Bali is famous for.

But this will be no ordinary stroll….this is a special Balinese Herbal Walk. We'll learn about the plants and herbs commonly used in Balinese traditional medicine that have been passed down for generations. We’ll also check out Southeast Asian spices, unique to the area, some of which are used in local cuisine, some in natural healing agents and others that are actually used for both!

Following our walk we’ll learn how to make a variety of traditional Balinese herbal products…like beverages, traditional pain relief balms, body or hair-care products and natural sunblock.

Yet another fine lunch will be served in a wonderful, tranquil location guaranteed to please.

Once we’ve officially checked into our new accommodations, there’ll be a variety of options available to you.

There’s a long stretch of beach that offers calm, shallow waters. Colorful fishing boats dot the sand behind which there’s a paved path perfect for cycling. Or you may opt to stroll the leafy main street of Sanur, Jalan Danau Tamblingan, which is lined with art galleries, shops and restaurants.

OPTIONAL AFTERNOON ACTIVITY: Those who are interested will head off to the southern tip of the island for a sunset performance of the Kecak Dance, also known as the “Bali Fire Dance” The Kecak Dance is said to originate from a Balinese ancient ritual called “Sanghyang”, aimed as a form of exorcism or to repel evil spirits in which dancers fall into a trance but in the 1930’s it became a theatrical display of traditional Balinese dance. Contemporary modifications aside, the setting for the dance is Uluwatu Temple, one of six key temples believed to be a spiritual pillar Bali. Uluwatu is renowned for its magnificent location, perched on top of a steep cliff at the water’s edge, nearly 230 feet above sea level. Following the ceremony, we’ll enjoy dinner at a beautiful restaurant near the temple.

For those who’ve chosen to stay in Sanur, dinner will be available either at our “hotel” or at a nearby restaurant in town.

As always, lunch will be another yummy affair in town followed by who knows what? A little nap? A visit to check out the eerie, abandoned amusement park rife with street art and offbeat photo ops? The beach is so close…maybe you’d like to spend the afternoon catching a few rays.

Our farewell dinner is this evening and we’re headed to one of the best restaurants in the area to celebrate all that we’ve done, honor the new friendships we’ve created and bask in each other’s company as a group for the final time on the Island of The Gods.
